Weekly Notices 30th June 2019

The flowers today are kindly given by Elaine Phillips in memory of loved ones.

This Sunday afternoon’s service will be held in “the Glade” at Ashton Park which is near the tea shop.

There are still some dates when help is needed. Please sign the sheet in the foyer if you can help serve coffee and wash up on a Friday morning.

WSO is joining up with Crosby Symphony Orchestra to put on a concert at the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool on Sunday, 30th June at 2.30 p.m.  The programme will include Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Overture and his Violin Concerto plus An Alpine Symphony by Strauss. Tickets are available from Polly Spencer - £15 standard and £5 for under 16s.  See poster for further details including coach pick up.

The next meeting will be on Thursday, 4th July from 12 noon to 2 p.m. when the speakers will be from the WIRED Carers Team giving information on the services and support they offer. As always anyone with current or previous caring experience is very welcome.  We are planning a trip out on 1st August so if you would like to come on the trip but can’t make the next meeting please let me know.

Elaine Phillips will be hosting a Strawberry Tea at 13 Burlingham Avenue, West Kirby on Saturday, 6th July from 2.30 p.m.   Tickets £5 available from Elaine.  Proceeds will be for MWiB’s current Special Project which is run by Barnabas Aid supporting widows and children of men who have suffered violent deaths in the recent conflicts in Aleppo, Syria.

The Circuit Thanksgiving Service for the ministries of the ordained ministers and lay staff leaving the Circuit will be held on Saturday, 20th July at 6 p.m. at Moreton Methodist Church. Refreshments will be served after the service.

This meeting takes place after the morning service on Sunday, 21st July and will be chaired by Rev Viv Gasteen.   A bring and share lunch follows the ACM.

This is an important meeting so please make every effort to attend as Stewards, members of the Leadership Team and other committees are elected/re-elected.   Scarthe Spencer has already retired as Property Secretary and Jim Drake will be standing down as Booking Secretary with effect from the 31st August.

Some current members have served longer than is expected so if you would like to become involved in the day to day running of the Church please speak to Elaine Phillips, Church Council Secretary.

Do we just do “jobs for the church”?  Is there something more to the way we work within the church community?  What do we mean when we say, “put me to what you will” in the Covenant Service?  Viv Gasteen will be exploring this during morning worship on 21st July.  If you would like to join Viv to prepare this service please let her or Graham Gladden know.  The ACM will be after the service and will be followed by a faith lunch.  A meeting to plan the service will be at 2 p.m. at church on Tuesday, 9th July.  If you want to be involved but can’t make that time, please let us know.

We are sorry to announce that we can no longer send goods, shoeboxes or money to Merseyside for Romania.

Losing the warehouse made collection and dispatch of goods impossible.  Transport Manager Dave, suffered a stroke and, worst of all, co-ordinator and chief organiser, Jean Hickson, has been crippled by inoperable arthritis.  Unfortunately there is now no-one who can take goods and cash out to Pitesti.

We have been helping Romania since 1997 and we have supported Father Constantin Mariora since the spring of 1998 and we are very sad to lose that link.
